Underfloor Heating Build-Ups: Comparing Screeds and Dry Systems

The cover image is illustrative, not a documented Puur project.

A heating build-up should be designed as a coordinated construction. Alternatives to a conventional screed can change weight, levels and the programme, but the final floor must remain compatible with the chosen system.

Identify the exact construction

Ask the designer for the heating system, insulation, screed or boards and finish in one drawing. Product names and thicknesses matter more than broad descriptions such as liquid or dry.

Separate setting from readiness for flooring

Do not equate an early set or a walkable surface with permission to apply the finish. The relevant suppliers should specify moisture assessment, commissioning and installation conditions.

Check support beneath the finish

Do not assume resin or PSR can be poured directly over heating pipes, mats or a dry panel system. Obtain confirmation for the complete build-up, including preparation and movement-joint requirements.

Build the programme from instructions

Use the actual products’ drying, testing and curing requirements. Avoid applying one number of days to cement, calcium sulphate and specialist fast-drying products. Resolve uncertain interfaces before ordering.

Discuss your project with Puur

Send plans, photographs of the existing base, intended use and any heating details. We can discuss the finish, samples and the information needed before agreeing a specification.

Is Puur PSR the same as a resin floor?

No. Puur PSR is a cementitious overlay. Resin finishes and structural polished concrete slabs are different constructions and need their own specifications.
